Getting Started

 Step–by–step instructions

Step 1 = Prepare your XP CD (Sp2 ->setup-CD) top

...your first Reatogo-CD could boot you into this desktop

in a few minutes from now...

But, before you build your Reatogo CD,

do yourself a favour!

this is the most important step

for a successful build...

XP-sp2

before you build!

Make sure, your XP-setup CD has Sp2 integrated.

... READ THIS to create a valid source...

Do not try to build from XP-sp1

( it will not work !!! )

For a successful build, also check, whether you

 meet the system requirements:

- XP-sp2 on setUp-CD and host system

- Your setup must be in the root of a drive/partition (like C:\reatogo-25-6a)

- that partition must have the NTFS file system (Fat32 will not work).

If you have run the reatogo setup-EXE in the wrong location, correct it now, before you go any further!

OS lower than XP will not work!

A long path and/or any blanks in the path to your setup,

or using XP-sp1, a host system with an older OS (Win2k, Win98...) etc.

will definitely create build errors.

Windows Server 2003 sp1 will also work.

But it is not well tested and there may be some limitations and problems.

Disable the WindowBlinds plugin, if you try to build from 2k3 and be prepared for some troubleshooting.

Note: These requirements are for the Reatogo package. If you can not meet these requirements, please use the original BartPE setup, which does have lower requirements.

From here it will be easy and should work without problems...

Step 2 = Open the folder "plugin"  top

run "getting_started.exe"

...to update and configure your Reatogo setup.

You will be guided through the initial setup process

and through the download of addl. plugins.

You have to be online.

Not much to explain here, as everything unfolds automatically.

You can just confirm every prompt with ENTER

and at the end of the run, your Reatogo setup will be configured and you see a list of plugins to pick from for download.

At the end, Getting_Started.exe will change it´s name and icon to Get_Plugins.exe. Both have the same function.

Get the XP-look

You need the program WindowBlinds (free) installed on your host system, if you want the real XP-look on CD.

If it is already installed, the Getting_Started run will automatically tie it into the configuration. If not it will download the program for you. Please install it and run Get_Plugins.exe again. It will then download the XP-theme itself and once everything is complete, the windowblinds plugin will be downloaded and automatically configured.

In short:

just keep running Get_Plugins.exe and follow the instructions until it jumps directly to the plugin download list when you run it.

Step 3 = Apply Network Fix  top

Enable access to shares on your local network

run winpe-xpsp2-fix.reg

Run it on every computer in you local network, that has XP-sp2 installed,

or you will not be able to access your shares when booted from CD. Access only works in one direction.

You need to be behind a router, to have instant access to your local shares and to the internet when booted from CD.

At this stage, dial-up is not natively supported by the reatogo package.

Step 4 = run "autoDriver"  top

Run autoDriver to Create Driver Plugins

If you find to have storage- , network-, display-, audio- and modem drivers, not natively supported.

Don´t select any virtual drives

(like Nero Imagedrive), it will not work. Be cautious: only select, what you really need.

If you select anything on the list beyond the essential, you may try it out, but be prepared for build problems.

Use my selection on the screenshot as a guideline. Unfortunately I don´t have a modem. So that section is empty here.

The device names match the listing in your hardware manager.

Check there for details about the items on the list.

Note:

the free version only supports storage- and network drivers.

The premium key unlocks support for all 5 types.

If you want a universal CD, run autoDriver on all your computers,

to collect their drivers and move them to your setup. Correct name duplicates if required. A USB stick works well for collecting.

Step 5 = configure your recovery CD  top

Custom Configuration

You are now ready to build your first CD, using the default settings.

I suggest, you do just that for your first build and move now to Step 6.

Check everything out first and then return to this section for your second build.

This is the configuration section of the premium version.

If you are using the free version, you can do these configurations manually in your custom INF.

If you´re happy with the visual defaults, you can just leave everything as is and you´re done.

All essential configurations like system language, local keyboard, start page IE etc. have been done

automatically by the pre-processing module of the package.

Select the wall paper...

Select the Background Colour...

Ramdrive Settings...

-enable or disable AutoRamResizer

AutoRamResizer will automatically find the right size for the ramdrive up to 127 Mb.

- Select the size for a fixed size ramDrive.

Mb.Default for fixed is 64 Mb.

Note: the included driver will only allow a maximum of 95 Mb. Get the pro version from the author for more.

Post-processing Options...

This should be left at its defaults, unless you are an expert and know the consequences of the settings.

Pre-processing Run...

After you made any changes to the settings on the frontpanel, or after you updated your package, press "configure" to apply them.

This module also does the localisation of the package during the first setup. (The right language, keyboard etc.)

Set a Boot Password for your CD...

optional, press "cancel" if not desired.

This screen is part of the pre-processing run.

Step 6 = burn CD top

Start Reatogo PE builder

Select the location of your setup-CD,

select your burner at the bottom and make sure, everything else looks like on the screenshot.

( select "Erase CDRW" only if you use RW media )

Press "Plugins" to open the plugin dialog (below).

"Enable/Disable" will include/exclude a plugin from the build.

Press "Close" in the plugin dialog to get back to the PEbuilder dialog (above)

Press "Build" to start the build process.

This is how to configure plugins from the plugin dialog:

Pressing the “Help” button of the software plugins opens the folder where the files go and you will see autoHelp.cmd.

AutoHelp.cmd automatically copies all necessary files from your program directory to the plugin

Download and install the software on your source system first. Some plugins download the files for you.

Always just run autoHelp and follow the instructions.

 Note:

Run WindowBlind´s autoHelp.cmd if you are using the free version of the package and want ot change the theme.

The premium panel allows you to select the theme there without re-configuring WindowBlinds.

Once you have your basic setup running:  top

Note: this is not needed for Reatogo autoHelp Plugins!

Reatogo shortcutCreator

to easily add XPE shortcuts to older plugins.

No need to type. Just select everything!

Import the INF you want to modify, make your selections and settings and press "Create Shortcuts".

If you´re happy with the result, press "Save Plugin".

Note: the Premium version looks slightly different (only visual) and has an addl. tab with some addl. edit functions.

top (shortcutCreator is included in the setup bundle)
